WHAT A POULTRY FARMER DOES

A poultry farmer is someone who raises domesticated birds such as geese, ducks, turkeys or chickens for the purpose of farming meat or eggs for sale and consumption. A poultry farmer typically raises one type of poultry, and more than half of the poultry farming industry raises chickens.  Chickens may be raised for their eggs or meat, or both.

A chicken farmer also has to make sure that the chicken coop is clean. A chicken coop is like the chickens house. It is where they sleep and lay their eggs, so it has to be clean. A chicken farmer is also in charge of collecting the chickens eggs, scooping out manure, and feeding and watering the birds. A chicken farmer often take walks through the coop, so that birds will become used to being around people, so it is easier to get close to them if they are sick or injured.
